- Together with Holcim Italy, neustark puts three CO2 storage sites into operation.
- The three plants for the storage of biogenic CO2 in residual water are all located in the area of the city of Milan.
Together with Holcim Italia, neustark is driving forward the decarbonization of the construction sector and is commissioning the first plants for permanent CO2 storage in residual water in Italy. The first location: Holcim Italia's ready-mix concrete plant in Busto Arsizio. Two further plants will go into operation in Nerviano and Peschiera Borromeo in the coming months. All sites are located near Milan.
Neustark's innovative technology enables to mineralize biogenic CO2 in the residual water from the washing process of truck mixers and other equipment and thus permanently remove it from the atmosphere.
"Strong partnerships like the one with Holcim make it easier for us to enter new countries. We are very proud to now also be present in Italy with our technology. With the Milan region and three locations within a small radius, we have found the ideal conditions. We are very happy to be able to put these plants into operation," says Valentin Gutknecht, co-founder and co-CEO of neustark.
"We are proud to be the first in Italy to use this innovative technology," says Paolo Zambianchi - Technical Director for Aggregates and Concrete Production. "This investment confirms our commitment to sustainability and supports the realization of our goals to reduce CO2 emissions."
The technology for storing CO2 in mixed water was launched in 2024. As part of the strategic partnership, Holcim has ordered a total of fourteen plants, which will go into operation in Switzerland, Germany, France, Austria and Italy.
